IMPHAL, OCT 31: President of the United Committee Manipur (UCM), YK Dhiren has urged for unity among the indigenous communities in Manipur to combat against the “divisive policies” and “foreign influences” in the state.
He was speaking at the “Remembrance of October Mass Rally – 2018” programme, which was organized today by UCM at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.

Notably, UCM has been annually organizing the event in commemoration of the “Mass Rally” which was held on the theme “To Let Manipur Live and Grow Together” on October 31, 2018, in Imphal.
In his speech, Dhiren further said that strengthening the bond of brotherhood among the indigenous communities in the state is paramount in defending the state from external threats while sounding alert that Manipur is facing a proxy-war using “Chin-Kuki-narco terrorists” from Myanmar.
He lamented that the Government of India is “silently looking into the ongoing crisis in Manipur” while noting that the state’s integrity has been threatened on multiple occasions.

The UCM president also stated that the “idea of Manipur”, which builds on the basis of “living the diverse communities together and growing them together” has been eroding since after the state merged with the Union of India.
Dhiren then appealed to all the indigenous communities in the state to set aside their differences and stand together as one.
Former Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) convener Khomdram Ratan, advocate Leishangthem Jadu, and Tourangbam Birjit also attended the programme.
