UT News Service | IMPHAL, August 5: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday inaugurated two Fast Track Courts (FTCs) located at Uripok and Lamphelpat, Imphal through video conferencing from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
N. Biren speaking on the occasion, mentioned that cases related to crime against women in the state can be addressed, tackled and will accelerate access to justice, as well as serve as a deterrent to criminals with the inauguration of such system in place. Around 951 cases of crime against women have been registered in the last three and half years, he added.
The Chief Minister then maintained that there is an urgent need to dispose off all major cases of crime against women such as rape, torture etc. These FTCs will dispose the pending POSCO and rape cases in the State, he added. He opined that there is a long felt need that Judiciary and Executive should go hand in hand for justice and development. The State government has appointed two retired District and Sessions Judges Shri Salam Imocha Singh and Shri Chandam Brajachand Singh as Judges of the two newly inaugurated FTCs, he added.
In his address, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Ramalingam Sudhakar said that the objective of such FTCs is to provide speedy and effective trials to the cases related to women and children. He mentioned that women and children need to be protected from abuse and violence.
Deputy Chief Minister Y. Joykumar, Minister for Law and Legislative Affairs L. Jayantakumar Singh, Minister for CAF&PD Karam Shyam, Judges of Manipur High Court, Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Secretary (Law) Athokpam Nungsitombi, and others were present during the function.
