Imphal: Police in the poll-bound Manipur have arrested six persons including a woman with a huge quantity of WY tablets during a random frisking and checking in Thoubal district.
A police source said that 300,000 pieces of WY (Methamphetamine) tablets in 30 packets weighing around 34 kg were recovered from the possessions of the arrested persons.
A team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) division of the state police arrested the six persons on February 20, around 3 pm.
The team was on frisking and checking to check the illicit trafficking of drugs and contraband items at Tangjeng area of Thoubal district.
According to the police, arrested persons were identified as Md Abdur Rahman (45) of Lilong, Manipur, Th Abigail (38) of Lilong, Manipur, Rekibuddin Ahamed (43) from Assam, Md Ajmir Hussain (43) of Lilong, Manipur, Ngaoni Deep (27) of Senapati district, Manipur.
The six persons were coming in two cars – Maruti Suzuki SX4 and Toyota Fortuner – and a cash amount of Rs 50,520 was also seized from them, the police added.
During preliminary investigation, the police revealed that the arrested persons were a part of an inter-state drug trafficking network and the drugs were handed over to them from Myanmar side at Moreh border to be transported to Guwahati, the police also said.
