A newly-constructed resting shed at ‘Siraragui’ viewpoint in Hunphun village, about 1 km off the main town, has been opened for the public.
Siraragui, a natural viewpoint located at Awungtang, is a unique place which provides a spectacular view of the eastern slope of Ukhrul town, the world-famed Shirui Kashong peak and several contiguous villages of northern region.
Former UADC Executive Member Edmund Chiphang on Wednesday inaugurated the new facility in the presence of Hunphun headman HA Sarimaya, ex-UADC members HA Vareishang and Thuingahan Pheirim, AHTA Chairman Chonme Raleng, Hunphun VA members and public members.
“I decided to build this new resting shed here because this unique natural place has been used by the public as a viewpoint since the olden days. With this new resting shed, I hope this point will give a better viewing experience to the people,” Chiphang said.
Receiving the shed key from the former councilor, Sarimaya expressed elation and thanked Chiphang for constructing the much needed shed for the benefits of not just locals but also outsiders visiting the place.
The rite of blessing of the new facility was administered by Rev Fr Philip Rei, PP, MHCC, Ukhrul.
The resting shed was constructed under 15th Finance Commission 2020-21 of the district council and the construction site was donated by AR Ngakhuiza.
