3 Cadres of ZUF (J) and NSCN-IM dies in factional Clash; Noney Village Council passes 4 resolutions

Noney, Dec 17: Two Cadre of the Zeliangrong United Front (Jianchui) group and one cadre of the NSCN-IM died in a fierce gunfight at Noney district on Sunday.

According to sources, the gunfight occurred at around 7 am under Khoupum Police Station at Lamdangmei Village’s Prayer Mountain.

The three deceased are identified as Daiguang Gangmei @ Kiakna (21), s/o Poujaukngam Gangmei of Luangchum (Awangkhu) Village, Noney Dist and Rachunlung Gangmei (25) s/o Nganjinang Gangmei,
of Jiribam Ramgaijang Village, both from the ZUF (J) faction; while one cadre of the NSCN-IM identified is a Sergean Major Ramreikan @ Akan from Ukhrul District’s Lunghar Village. Sources say Ramreikan was the commander of the operation team.

Responding to the incident, a team of Khoupum Police and the Noney District Police, including various Civil bodies from the area rushed to the spot. The decades, all from Manipur state were dispatched to their respective Villages after proper verification from the Police, sources said.

Condemning the factional violence during festive season, especially Christmas, the Noney Village Council passed four resolutions. The resolutions are listed below:

  1. Not to support/cooperate NSCN-IM and ZUF.
  2. To announce their stand (to not support) in the media
  3. To judge the bloodshed responsible person/party as per traditional justice system.
  4. To organise a People’s Convention in this regard to prevent such incident in future.
