BJP Criticizes MP Bimol Akoijam for Ignoring Key Issues in Manipur Crisis Speech

Imphal: BJP Senior General Secretary K. Sarat has criticized MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam for not addressing crucial issues during his recent speech in Parliament on the ongoing crisis in Manipur.

Speaking to the media at BJP Headquarters, Thambal Shanglen at Nityaipat Chuthek in Imphal on Thursday, K. Sarat clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not claim that the firing in Manipur had stopped, but rather stated that the state is gradually returning to normalcy. He refuted Dr. Bimol’s allegation that the Prime Minister was deceiving the people of Manipur.

K. Sarat also slammed Congress MPs for leaving the House when the Prime Minister was about to address the Manipur issue, calling their departure disrespectful. He criticized Dr. Bimol for failing to provide constructive suggestions to resolve the crisis and for not mentioning critical issues such as the NRC, border fencing, and the SoO Agreement with Kuki militants. On the other hand, Sarat praised Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba for addressing these important topics and suggested that the Lok Sabha MPs from Manipur should have done the same.

Speaking to the media, BJP Spokesperson L. Basantakumar accused MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam of misleading the public about the Tripartite SoO agreement involving Kuki militants, the Centre, and the Manipur Government. He noted that the state government had already withdrawn from the agreement due to violations of its ground rules.

Basantakumar also refuted MP Bimol’s claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been silent on the Manipur violence, highlighting that PM Modi addressed the issue on August 10 and 15 last year and again on July 3 this year. He criticized Bimol for failing to mention key points from the Congress election manifesto in his speech and emphasized the need for constructive suggestions to the Centre to help resolve the crisis in Manipur.
