Dr. Soya Rungsung, District Veterinary Officer, Ukhrul stated that “When you received a report of an outbreak of Swine Flu immediately consult the veterinary department. Kitchen waste should be discarded and not fed to the pigs during such an outbreak. Deworming should be given to piglets every 3 months and to adults after every 6 months. This will ensure healthy growth of the pigs. Our office can provide the vaccine for the classical swine fever but not for the African swine flu.”
TS. John Monsang, Branch Manager of SBI Mini Secretariat, Ukhrul stated that “Chingmi loves pork. North East people really love to consume pork meat. In a year, people who are into this business are earning a lot of money. People from Manipur are importing pigs from other states for consumption.”

Thangreihor Keishing, Branch Manager of MSCB, Ukhrul stated that “The idea of coming together to form a farmer producer organisation is part of a development process. In the north east alone, there is a demand for 8000 crores kilograms of pork meat in a year, however, the local market can supply only 1 crore kilograms. Therefore, there is a huge gap between the demand and the supply.”
An open public interaction with the panelist and experts were also taken up at the event.
