NSCN laments the demise of Capt. (Retd.) Wunganing Shimray

NSCN-IM condoled the demise of (L) Capt. (Retd.) Wunganing Shimray, Executive Member, Steering Committee, NSCN, from Shokvao village under Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) on the 17th November, 2020 at Imphal due to his chronic kidney problem.

In a condolence message issued on Wednesday, NSCN recounted that he joined NSCN in 1986, and as a dedicated revolutionary patriot, he showed his zeal, and tirelessly worked towards fulfilling his dreams. The message also attributed “a number of fields in Ukhrul district (WTR) and Council Headquarters (CHq) Hebron that show the footprint of development initiated by him”.

“The Circular Road in Ukhrul town is his brainchild,” the message reminisced, adding that he took up many development projects when he was the Convener of CHq Development for a short period of six months. “The Hebron Gate that he constructed is a landmark today,” it further ascribed.

Condoling his demise, NSCN said that the Naga nation had lost a dynamic leader whose burning passion to serve the nation was cut short by the cruel hands of death that came too early. “We find it difficult to imagine the vacuum created,” the condolence message noted. NSCN further said that his name would be recorded in the annals of Naga political struggle as a “true son of the soil” who proved his mettle as a man for the Naga nation.

Hailing Mr Shimray as “a man of action” NSCN accredited him for his “nobility, integrity and visionary qualities of a leader” which were reflected in his service to the nation, and further commended for “his visionary determination to introduce new area of development”.

NSCN also recollected that his heroic push for development was a “matter of legacy” now and added that his service for the Naga nation was marked by his overwhelming display of nationalism and patriotic fervour.

The MIP (NSCN) message extended “deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and close friends” and prayed to the Almighty God to give them the strength and courage to hold on the loss.

“Most importantly, may the spirit of (L) Capt. (Retd.) Wunganing Shimray rest in eternal peace!” read the condolence message.
