Blessing ceremony of Bhartiya Janata Party intending candidate for 45-Chingai (ST) assembly constituency MK Preshow Shimray, former deputy speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly was held on Monday at his native Makevah, Poi village.
Preshow was showered with blessings by his grandfather duo- Pearson Neerai and Yanglung Shatsang- in addition to Huishu headman. Rev Ramthing Alungnao, pastor Poi Baptist Church and his board of deacons also pronounced a blessing prayer for the BJP intending candidate.
The program was attended by headman Huishu village, Ngahui village headman, Phungcham village headman, BJP Ukhrul district president and his executives, Chingai mandal president, morchas, well wishers, and few neighbouring villages besides his native headman, VDC chairman and villagers.
The former Manipur Legislative Assembly deputy speaker officially joined BJP party on 15 July, 2020.
Speaking at the occasion, MK Preshow Shimray thanked all who came to his blessing ceremony, adding that the blessing ceremony was meant to be his family and native village. “During my tenure as an MLA, several works which I undertook are still left unattended to. I have also made tons of mistakes. As a human being I am not perfect. Let’s forgive and move ahead,” Preshow said.
Making a clarion call to field him as their representative, he also appealed the area people for their unceasing support and prayer to emerge victorious in the ensuing state general election in March 2022.
Commenting on his decision of joining BJP party, Preshow who was earlier elected from Congress party stated that he had plans to remain with the party. “Change of mind made inroad as chief minister N Biren Singh, Ukhrul district BJP leaders, my village and area leaders had asked me to be a part of the ruling dispensation stating one cannot work for the people in the absence of any resources,” said Preshow.
Furthermore, Preshow said, “In the midst of all these developments, prime minister Narendra Modi and chief minister N Biren led centre and state flagship programs for the welfare of farmers and poor sections of the society caught my attention as I too admire and love to take up such developmental programs. Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas is BJP mantra, and its mission is to work for the country and its development.”
Maintaining his core reason for joining BJP, Preshow said, “My mission is also to help and reach the poor and needy, I’m fully aware of its undercurrents.” Asserting that prime minister Modi and chief minister N Biren had taken up series of developmental activities for Ukhrul district, Preshow in his concluding remark said, “No past government had ever done what Modi and N Biren has done for Ukhrul, and as such, question of the district being sidelined in the developmental front does not arise. Prime minister Modi has special focus for development of Northeast region.”
Stating that Preshow’s root was from Congress party, Yarthothing Kashung, president BJP Ukhrul district said that BJP flagship programs for the poor and the farmers trigger the change of party. He further stated that he still remembers all the activities initiated by the former deputy speaker. Poi village is privileged to have such a tall figure in their midst, he opined.
Poi VDC chairman, S. Yangmi who also delivered a short speech asserted that this is the day to ask blessing. This is the hour to bless and not to praise or criticise. This basic fact cannot be twisted.
You are being blessed, he remarked.
As part of the event, a special song was presented by local gospel team Khavaokhon.
Chingai mandal president, Bejoy Shatsang who gave a brief speech wished the intending candidate the best in his pursuit.
Moderated by MK Worthing and MK Pamchui, the program began with prayer pronounced by Simon Kharei, Catechist.
