A further 34 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Meghalaya on Saturday, the highest figure since December 22. There were also 24 recoveries in the same period.
Of the new cases, 19 were in East Khasi Hills, 14 in West Jaintia Hills and one in North Garo Hills.
Thirteen of the new cases were in West Jaintia Hills’ Psiar cluster. In East Khasi Hills three health workers tested positive for Covid-19, along with two armed forces/paramilitaries, one police personnel and one returnee. There were also two new infections in Laitumkhrah and one each in Keating Road, Mawlai Mawroh and Upper Shillong.
The recoveries were divided between East Khasi Hills (22), West Khasi Hills (one) and West Jaintia Hills (one).
In all, Meghalaya has had 13,592 Covid-19 cases, of which 163 are active, 13,285 have recovered and 143 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has declined to 97.75 percent. The fatality rate is 1.05 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 1,320 Covid tests were carried out in the last 24 hours.
