Imphal: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, authorities in Manipur’s Jiribam district seized a staggering amount of brown sugar valued at Rs 3.5 crore in the international illicit market.
The operation, conducted jointly by Jiribam district police and the 39th Assam Rifles, intercepted a Bolero Pick Up laden with unsuspecting cargo – pumpkins and bananas. Upon inspection, the team uncovered 30 soap cases discreetly concealed within the pumpkins, containing a total of 363.45 grams of brown sugar.
The contraband, destined for Cachar in Assam from Tipaimukh of Pherzawl district, was intercepted en route, foiling the illicit trade attempt. The two individuals apprehended in connection with the drug haul, identified as Abdul Mazumder and Khalil Barbhuiya, were promptly handed over to the Jiribam police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts to curb the menace of drug trafficking in the region.
