Manipur recorded 259 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the overall caseload of the disease to 31,001.
The report further saw deaths of two persons related to the viral disease, taking the total number of lives claimed by the virus in the state to 395.
Even as 59 discharges took the recovery tally to 29,376, the active cases in the state rose to 1230. The recovery rate dropped further to 94.75%.
The 259 new infections including seven personnel of CAPF were found as test results of 2,357 samples were received till 5pm on Wednesday. The state has tested 6,09,910 samples so far.
As per the report, 94 of the 252 new infections from the general population were reported in Imphal West district alone. Imphal East reported 76 new cases, 11 in Thoubal, 20 in Bishnupur, seven in Kakching, four in Ukhrul, two in Chandel, 27 in Churachandpur, three in Kangpokpi, six in Senapati and one each in Tengnoupal and Jiribam districts.
Of the two deaths, a 76-year-old man was from Imphal East while a 57-year-old man from Imphal West.
On the other hand, in view of the second wave of COVID-19 and ever increasing cases, all sporting activities including any sport related activity at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and other sport complexes in the districts were banned with immediate effect.
An ban order of the state youth affairs and sports department passed on April 24 last also covered privately run or managed sport complexes.
Entry of visitors at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex except officials and staff of youth affairs and sports, National Sport University and other departments located at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex has also been restricted.
