Ukhrul: The sitting MLA of Chingai assembly constituency Khashim Vashum said that the Naga People’s Front is not a party whose politics is restricted only for development but it is a party that work and stand for the political rights of the Naga people.Vashum said this while speaking at the one day political awareness camp organised by 7 Kachai District Council Constituencies (DCC), NPF at Kachai village on Tuesday.
Elaborating on the NPF principle, he said NPF political demension goes far beyond development. Whenever there is any issues, NPF is the first party the concerned party approached us to address the matter.
He cited recent murder case at Sinakeithei village, in addition to issues the people faced in Imphal and Kasom khullen to drive home the message of oneness and the stand the party had taken. Its now upto the people to decide the political party that should best serve and represent their aspiration.
Contractors are up against me as I stood up for the unjust action of agencies, he said.
Emphasising on the importance of Delimitation, he said that there are two member from Meitei, and one each from Naga, Kuki and Muslim, adding that as member of the committee i would do the needful in consultation with the people as the issue demands thread bare discussion and understanding of this heart of the matter.
The awareness camp was attended by Samuel Risom, working president, Central Kohima, NPF led team, Kachai DCC former ADC member Thuingahan Pheirim Teinem DCC former ADC member Khayinghor Valui, Talui DCC ADC member Kapangpang Zimik, Sagolmang villages, NPF executives and Youth wing, party workers and villagers.
Saying that he began the 2017 election preparations from Kachai, Vashum exuded confidence that the political camp initiated here today holds deep significance for the ensuing elections and thanked Kachai village, party leaders and workers for organising the party awareness camp.
He said in the first wave of the pandemic last year NPF had extended helps to ten thousand plus returnees from Chingai kendra alone. Only small amount from government side had been credited. But I neither complaint nor have any regrets as I took the task as my responsibility.

Elaborating further on water supply work program, Khashim said that he has been trying to get sanction since 2018 for water supply and added that 3000 crore plus amount has been recently cleared for implementation.
He continued that out of the 50 villages in 45 Chingai kendra, with the exception of Paorei and Peh, the rest of the village had been included in the programme and will reach their village at the earliest.
In the case of Peh and Paorei, he said through the North East Council (NEC) – a council that looks after the development of northeast region – a programme worth 3 crore rupees has been applied as it is a big village, awaiting sanction.
Any development or work programmes that concerned Chingai kendra does not happen in vaccume, recommendation and support of area MLA is indispensable as the project concerns the area.
He said this commenting on the modal village of Champhung in Sagolmang area and Longpi khullen in north of Chingai kendra.
Speaking at the occasion, Wungnaoshang A Shimray, president NPF Ukhrul division said that we won’t be abled to measure how satiated the caged animal is, the one who is wild would obviously be the one with full stomach. Naga’s are like caged animals.
“We are all blessed with different talents, with all the strength that we have in us let us come together and support NPF. We are not fighting with arms today but we are fighting a political war. The party stands for the Naga cause,” he added.
Rev Ngavaophung Raikhan, pastor Theikhor baptist church thanked MLA Khashim for offering 100-hour free bulldozer service for construction of Thotchan Baptist English school playground, a Church sponsored mission school.
Former Ukhrul ADC member, Thanchipem Jagoi who spoke on the concept of “Politics as Very Dirty Game” said that politics by itself is not dirty. Politics is something which is needed by everyone to usher financial stability and is a necessary tool to uplift the poor and rich alike.
Maintaining that development begins in the mind, he said clear mind brings clear society. “We all are given the freedom of choice, speech and expression to exercise our rights. Let’s utilise it wisely”.
