Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh Monday inaugurated the Tokyo Olympic Cheer For India and the hash tag #Cheer4India campaign in Manipur to motivate India’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic bound athletes in a function held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Cheer for India activities will include Olympic Quiz, fan engagement drives, Olympic Symposium and setting up Selfie points to click pictures & show their support, N Biren Sigh said from his social media handle.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered praises upon Manipur state on Twitter and said “Manipur is a powerhouse of sporting talent. Good effort by the Manipur Government to #Cheer4India and to inspire youngsters to pursue sports.”
Government of Manipur has announced cash rewards for prospective medal winners from Manipur at the Olympics. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that the State Government would hand over a cash award of Rs. 1.2 crore to gold medal winners, Rs. 1 crore for silver medal winners and Rs. 75 lakh for bronze medal winners at the Tokyo Olympics from the State.
In addition, the state government would provide a cash incentive of Rs. 25 lakh to all the five participants who are representing the country in Tokyo Olympics. Expressing confidence that the State athletes would win medals for the country, he wished success to all the five athletes on behalf of the people of Manipur.

The five Tokyo Olympic athletes representing Indian contingent from Manipur are MC Mary Kom, Sushila Likmabam (Judo), Saikhom Mirabai (Weightlifting), Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu and Shanglakpam Nilakanta Sharma (Hockey).
