ANSAM’s New Executives Assume Office

Ukhrul, 31 Jan: The new executives of the All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) officially assumed their roles on Friday during a change of guard ceremony held at the Secretariat office building in Senapati.

In her message of solidarity, Ch. Priscilla Thiumai, President of the Naga Women’s Union, praised the student body for its active involvement and dedication to the welfare of the student community. She highlighted that youth are in their most productive phase, bearing significant responsibilities, and emphasized their potential for human resource development. Priscilla referred to the student body as the custodians of the Naga student community.

While congratulating the new team, the NWU President encouraged them to strive for greater achievements and create meaningful change. Additionally, she expressed her gratitude to the outgoing team for their substantial legacy and urged them to continue supporting and advising the new executives.

Outgoing President Luikang Luckson delivered an emotional farewell speech, expressing his sadness about leaving the association, his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as president, and his regret over the unfinished tasks from his term. He shared his vision for positive change and highlighted the significant progress made during his tenure.

Although challenges remain, he hopes that the foundation laid will be built upon and that the momentum created will continue to grow, becoming stronger and more resilient than ever. Luckson also thanked his outgoing team for their tireless support and commitment to upholding the association’s integrity throughout their journey. He expressed appreciation to the senior leaders for their guidance, cooperation, encouragement, and wisdom during difficult times. Finally, Luckson urged the new team to strive for excellence, innovate, and make a positive impact during their time in office.

Incoming President Th. Angteshang Maring, in his speech, assured that he would maintain the continuity of the working spirit established by previous ANSAM leaders, who approached their roles with sincerity, integrity, and a deep understanding of the Naga issue. The new President also emphasized that his team would collaborate to make inclusive decisions, after thorough consultation, focusing on a strategic approach to the current situation, including the Indo-Naga political issue. Additionally, he committed to working for the welfare and upliftment of the student community.

In his solidarity message, Vareiyo Shatsang, General Secretary of the United Naga Council, called for a renewed focus on the fact that students are the future leaders, thinkers, and change-makers of society. While students need to be aware of and engage with the political landscape, he urged them not to overlook their fundamental role as students. He encouraged them to strike a balance between being informed and active citizens while prioritizing their academic pursuits, personal growth, and collective development.

The UNC General Secretary urged incoming leaders to refocus on the core issues affecting students. They emphasized the importance of improving academic infrastructure and resources, enhancing student welfare and support services, fostering a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and social responsibility, and providing opportunities for skill development, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

In a call to action, the UNC leader encouraged collaboration to reclaim the association’s primary focus on student welfare and empowerment. To create a brighter future, Vareiyo expressed confidence in their collective potential to build a stronger and more vibrant student community that can thrive in an ever-changing world.

M. Mashangtei, former Pastor of New Eden Baptist Church, offered the dedicatory prayer later in the program.

The newly appointed ANSAM committee is President – Th. Anteshang (Maring), General Secretary – Isaac Charenamei (Liangmai), Vice President – Bosco Kashung (Maram), Assistant General Secretary – Singson (Thangal), Education Secretary – Joyful (Anal), Games & Sports Secretary – Longmei Rex Chujaenthaipou (Rongmei), Social & Cultural Secretary – Zebulun (Chothe), Finance Secretary -Jessy Inpui (Inpui), and Information & Publicity Secretary – Sochuingam (Tangkhul). For the Assembly Affairs, Andria Anal will serve as the Speaker, Karang Paul (Maram) the Deputy Speaker, and TP Dining (Rongmei) the Assembly Deputy Speaker.
